Effect of Uniconazole , Ancymidol and Chlormequat on the Growth of Pilea cadierei

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to clarify the most effective growth retardant, treatment method and concentration on the growth of Pilea cadierei by treatment of uniconazole ((E)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4- dimethyl-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl-1-petan-3-ol), ancymidol (¥á-cyclopropyl-¥á- (4-methoxyphenyl)-5-pyrimidinemethanol) and Chlormequat ((2-chloroethyl)-trimethyl ammonium chloride, CCC).
Reduction in stem length was proportional to the concentration (1.5-3.0 §¶ a.i.) of uniconazole in both foliar spray and soil drench treatments. However, the effect was more prominent in the soil drench than in the foliar spray. There was no significant reduction in stem length at the concentration (3-75 §¶ a.i.) in both foliar spray and soil drenching of ancymidol. The stem length was retarded by the foliar spray (300-1500 §¶ a.i.) of Chlormequat but not by the soil drench (30-1500 §¶ a.i.). As the results, it was concluded that the desired reduction in stem elongation of Pilea cadierei can be obtained most effectively by soil drench treatment even at low concentration (15 §¶ a.i.) of uniconazole. Moreover, it was thought that the ornamental value is enhancd by deeper green and distinct silvery band of leaf treated by uniconazole.
